Results from the 2022 Cassowary Coast Community Scorecard are out now after 1859 residents ‘joined the conversation’, sharing over one hundred thousand words to guide future priorities.

Mayor Mark Nolan said the scorecard has provided an opportunity to hear local residents’ perceptions, allowing Council to evaluate and adjust its service and programs to address community priorities.

“As promised the scorecard is being shared with our community in its entirety – The results show we have an invested community who are passionate about the future direction of our region. We value our community’s feedback, we hear you, we are listening and we look forward to the challenge of raising the bar.” Said Cr Nolan.

The Scorecard highlighted areas the community wants Council to prioritise, which include:

  • Local Roads, Footpaths, Trails and Cycleways
  • Health and Community Services
  • Economic Development and Jobs
  • Council’s Leadership
  • Seniors’ Care, Services and Facilities
  • Youth Services
  • Community Safety and Crime

Cr Nolan said Council is committed to delivering stage one of a community action plan by mid- August and is actively reviewing all the data collected and developing a set of actions to address the top priorities identified by the community.

“Whilst we all recognise the Cassowary Coast as a great place to live the scorecard has highlighted community priorities that will guide Council towards a future that meets the needs of the community.” Cr Nolan said.

The Scorecard also highlighted the community perceives Council is doing well in the following areas:

  • Library and Information Services
  • Marine Facilities
  • Natural Disaster Management
  • Recognition of Aboriginal Cultures
  • Quality of Drinking Water
  • Sewerage Management

Council’s Operational Plan for 2022-2023 outlines a number of key projects already in motion across the region which address priorities raised by respondents:

  • Deliver on actions from the Unsealed Road Improvement Plan
  • Provide the Mission Beach Town Centre Revitilisitation project
  • Fund the detailed design of the Innisfail Town Centre Revitalisation
  • Establishment of the Economic Development Advisory Committee and development of Economic Development Strategy
  • Facilitate development of a Youth Advisory Committee
  • Facilitate development of a Community Safety Working Group
  • Advocate for funding and State Government initiatives to target the Housing Crisis
  • Advocate for external funding for additional community parking (Rankin Street and Castor Park)
  • Provide a Pump Track as per the Warrina Lakes Masterplan
  • Provide a regional level park at Banyan Park, Tully

Council has actively reviewed all the data collected and developed a set of actions to address the top priorities identified by the community. Council is committed to meeting the community needs and have taken the top priorities and grouped them into six goals, each goal has priority actions to be undertaken throughout 2022.
