We are progressing the divestment of Council’s community housing portfolio to ensure community housing opportunities across the Cassowary Coast are delivered and serviced by experienced and specialised providers. This is an important step in strengthening our local community housing and supporting a more sustainable, responsive network that can meet the needs of our community now and into the future.

This approach aligns with our Corporate Plan and Local Housing Action Plan 2024–2029, which focus on improving housing outcomes and creating opportunities for growth in community housing. By partnering with a dedicated housing provider, we can enable access to greater expertise, stronger service delivery, and the potential to expand housing options across the region.

Following a competitive Expression of Interest (EOI) process, we received strong interest from across the sector. After a comprehensive two stage assessment, Council endorsed the recommendation of the evaluation panel with Regional Housing Ltd as the preferred provider for the first ten properties. Their submission demonstrated strong capability, a commitment to the Cassowary Coast, and plans to establish a local presence and grow housing opportunities in the region.

We are committed to working closely with both the current and incoming provider to ensure a smooth and carefully managed transition, with minimal disruption and continued access to appropriate housing. Supporting our community and ensuring people have a place to call home remains at the centre of this process.
