About the Strategy

The Cemetries Management Strategy guides the planning, management and operation of Cassowary Coast Regional Council controlled cemeteries for the next ten years.

The strategy applies to operation and management of Local Government cemeteries only including: Innisfail; Tully; Cardwell; and Murrigal. It does not apply to traditional owner cemeteries/burial grounds, cemeteries on private property or burials on private property.

When developing the strategy, Council officers engaged with key stakeholders. These stakeholders included the Innisfail, Cardwell and Tully cemetery sextons as well as local funeral directors.

Extensive research was also undertaken throughout the development of the strategy including population growth, average age, religion and cultural diversity.
