Background

Did you know that local governments administer local legislation? Local laws help communities to be better places to live by regulating certain behaviours, promoting safety, harmony and good rule in the community.

Council's Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws came into effect 1 October 2022. Since then, Council officers have been reviewing the effectiveness and operational use of the Local Laws to identify amendments that ensure the Local Laws are effective and meet community’s expectations.

Council at its meeting held 23 November endorsed proposed amendments to its Subordinate Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) and Subordinate Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas and Roads) as part of the annual review process.

During the Local Government Meeting held in January, Council endorsed the amended of Subordinate Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2022 and Subordinate Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas and Roads) 2022 under policy Local Law Making Policy.
