Help us build a more resilient community by telling us your experiences and observations of flooding.

We are updating our regional flood model to ensure the community has the most up-to-date information to better prepare for flooding and build a more resilient region.

Flood models help us understand how floods behave, including where water may flow, how deep it could be, how fast it moves and how long flooding may last during different events.

Our current model is over 10 years old and needs to be updated using new data and insights from recent major flood events.

This update is the first step in developing a flood risk assessment plan, which will guide Council’s response to and management of flooding into the future.

To make sure the model accurately reflects what happened on the ground, we’re seeking community information and observations from the 2023 Tropical Cyclone Jasper event and the February 2025 floods.

This could include photos, videos, anecdotal information, flood marks or general observations of flood behaviour.

Your first-hand experiences will play an important role in improving the model, alongside new data, technology and changes to the region since 2014.

Information can be provided from now until 30 April 2026.

We’re calling on the community to share what you saw during recent flood events. Using our interactive map, you can drop a pin, upload photos or observations, and help us build a more accurate flood model for the Cassowary Coast.
